Photography

The first time I ever realized I loved photography and taking pictures was, hilariously, when I got a smartphone as a young teenager. I was about thirteen or fourteen, and the idea that my phone could take a snapshot of a moment, or of art, and that art could be created anywhere out of anything with a camera, as long as I had a vision of it, fulfilled a part of me that I didn’t know I had.

Messing around with that camera, taking art with it, taught me how to create something out of nothing — a talent I would prove I needed as I got older. Messing around with my phone gave me a hankering for an actual, physical, DSLR. Even though I don’t get to use mine anymore, and use a phone instead, the art of using that DSLR created something in me — an inherent need to be able to make magic out of what was already there.

Someday, I might use an actual, physical camera instead of my phone again, but, right now, it’s much easier to open up the app. Any moment, all I need to do is open up the camera on my phone, and create the photo that I see a spot, place, or thing to be. Creating photography isn’t easy, but it’s enjoyable, and I love being able to show various parts of something other people might not be able to see.

Besides, I always have my phone with me.

Who doesn’t?
