Everyone deserves to love where they live. It doesn’t matter if it’s a room, an apartment, a trailer, a house, or anywhere where you take residence. All that matters is that, when you look around at where you are and what you have, that you feel like it’s home. It doesn’t have to take a lot of money, and it doesn’t have to be plain, boring, empty.

What it does need is your personality, splashed all over the walls.

The more you feel as though you’re surrounded by what you love, the more at home you will feel. No matter where I went, whether it was an apartment, a psych ward, or a room I lived in, I made sure to take control of the space as mine. Being in a place that felt good to be in is one of the biggest things that healed me.

As someone who’s a starving artist, my surroundings help to inspire me to create. You don’t need to be a starving artist to create where you love to be, however. All you need is creativity, self-love, and a little bit of time.
