DIY CLOSET LOVE
Who doesn’t love to grow their closet? Every piece of clothing you have, every watch, every purse, every accessory allows your insides to be shown on your outsides. Now, that might sound gross, but hear me out: everything we use from our closet depicts our personality. Personal style showcases who we are. Everyone has style, just like everyone deserves to express themselves. That’s the best part of having a closet. Everything we purchase is a part of who we are.
Sometimes, supplementing our big box store purchases with what we make by hand can help us to fully express ourselves in ways we otherwise couldn’t.
Even small things, and the simplest things, can elevate a closet. No matter where you get your inspiration from, the act of creation can update those parts of a wardrobe to newness and the act of a piece being special again. Whether it’s dying a t-shirt, or adding new laces to shoes, there are countless ways to create an update.
Some of these ways in the following articles are probably things you’ve thought of, or, they’re such an obvious answer to the clothing blues that you’ve never thought of them. The most obvious answers are, much of the time, the last thoughts we think of. That’s what makes them special, because those ideas also tend to be the ones that are the easiest to complete.
Each article in this segment explains various ways you can start with a blank canvas. They describe how to use that canvas in a way that suits what you want to make and how you want to make it. They’re written as ideas and blurbs rather than as recipes, and I hope that they inspire you to create in a way you want to create, instead of me going ahead and saying, ‘This is how you make this because this is how I learned how to make it.’
We all have our own ideas of how to create with our hands, so use these articles as prompts. Welcome your own creativity into these thoughts, and allow yourself to shape what you see out of the idea given. There are no instructions. There are no good or bad ways to do these. There is only you, and these prompts, and any future prompt-like ideas, ready to read, dream, and do.
Look inside of yourself and find your creativity. Bring these ideas to life in whatever way suits you. That’s the best part of being creative: each idea is sparked differently, depending on whose mind it’s sparked in. And here, I’m giving you the reigns.
