The Wine On The Lake

This is another ode to my stepfather. We were at our family’s lake house when I realized there were two main alcohols he loved: bourbon and wine. When he’s around, there’s always bourbon… and there’s always wine. In a desperate need to find a good cocktail, I found that thing I always love doing with his alcohols: combining base spirits. With ginger beer that’s normally reserved for his Old Fashioned’s, and strawberry slices that will break down the longer you sip your drink, I created a recipe that will continually remind me of our lake house and family.

Armida Warrior | Kitchen | Cocktail Hour | Wine On The Lake Cocktail | A fruity cocktail with wine and bourbon placed in front of a fish decorative piece

Ingredients:

1 large strawberry, or 2 small ones

2 parts Basil Hayden

2 parts Malbec

1 part Reed’s Ginger Beer

Directions:

Slice and chop the strawberry, or strawberries, into small chunks. Reserve the top slice with the stem as a garnish. Plop into a small mason jar-like glass. Add two regular shaped and sized ice cubes. Add the bourbon, wine, and ginger beer. Stir with back of bar spoon until glass begins to sweat. Garnish with round, or rounds, with the stems.
