'Base' Kettle Corn

I’ve made this recipe quite a few times now. Whenever I need a go-to sweet snack, this is the recipe that immediately pops into my head and pops into a popcorn bowl. It’s sweet, slightly salty because of the natural salt on the corn used in chain production, and with a slight vanilla flavor that adds a bit of spark to this snack. I’ve always been slightly obsessed with popcorn, and the fact that, most of the time, anything goes with this blank slate. I hope you love this recipe as much as I enjoyed developing it!

Ingredients:

1 bag plain microwave popcorn

5 tbsp butter

3 tbsp turbinado sugar

2 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch iodized salt

Directions:

Slice the butter into tablespoon portions. Plop in a microwavable mug for about forty-five seconds. Remove from microwave. Microwave the popcorn as directed on the bag. Add the sugar, vanilla, and salt to the mug. Stir into the melted butter. Remove the popcorn from the microwave and empty into a large serving bowl. Microwave the butter mixture for forty-five more seconds. Remove from the microwave. Drizzle into the popcorn little bits at a time, turning the bowl while tossing the butter mixture into the popcorn. Drizzle and toss until all of the butter is gone. Consume immediately.

Serving suggestion: Root beer, cream soda, or pilsner.
