You don’t need paint, glitter, or glue to update your sneakers. You don’t even really need artistic talent. All you need are jewelry beads that can fit over the laces, and any laces you can find anywhere, whether it’s the dollar store or any shoe place. Art supply stores also carry them, sometimes, and if they don’t, parachute cord or satin cording will work. What you’ll need to do for these types of string, however, is compare them to the shoelaces you already have, and cut your new laces to be the length of the ones for the shoes you want them to be for.
Once you have your laces, you can do research on different ways to lace your sneaks, or you can do them the old fashioned way, like I’ve done with my two pairs.

Don’t mind the muddiness of these guys! I love both pairs a little too much.
As you can see, both are threaded differently, and both use jewelry beads to fashionize the laces. Both utilize different colors that fit well in my wardrobe, which means I’ll be able to use both pairs. To me, as a starving artist, it’s always important to keep in your closet what you’ll actually use so that you get most wear out of everything you own. However, that does not mean that you have to empty your closet and become a minimalist. It does mean, though, that you can create maximalism to fit your lifestyle, and get wear out of everything you create, and everything you do.
What’s good, too, is if you collect shoelaces and jewelry beads in order to continue changing up your sneakers. You could have two or three pairs of them, and because you change your laces, you essentially almost get entirely new pairs of shoes each time. If you add beads to them, too, it’ll help create brand new looks out of the same two or three pairs.
You can change them up as often as you like, into whatever you like, as long as you have the materials.
And, if you have materials, you can create as many pairs as you like!
You shouldn’t have to go to the store every time you want a wardrobe change, which is why changing your laces and adding beads to your shoes is an inexpensive, creative way to create fun for your feet.
