Rematching Pajama Sets

Everyone loves a good pajama set. They’re comfy, and they make climbing into bed fun. But, what happens when we grow bored of the same sets over, and over, and over again? This is why, as soon as I receive a new set in the mail or at the store, I separate the pieces and go ‘plop’ into my drawer, giving me the leeway to use the pieces to create my own pajamarama outfits.

As someone who works from home, it’s important for me to have comfy clothing that I can wear around the house as I work. Most of the time, pajamarama time is in the middle of the day, as soon as I climb out of bed after working from it for a few hours after I wake up. It’s a celebration of the psyche, and as my set and sock collections grow, the diverse number of pairings I can create also grows.

Being able to create your own ‘sets’ allows for the pieces to seem newer, especially when you’re cross-pollinating pajamas and buying one or two pieces at a time.

It’s also a lot of fun to go to a ‘lounge clothing’ section of any department store, and find outfits from separate pieces — just like you’d do with normal clothing. Maybe you’ll find a pair of cute boxers, or a lacy bra. Maybe you’ll find that those two pieces go together, and you’ll find a pair of socks or slippers, and you’ll bring them home with you as your own version of a pajama set.

What’s nice about this is, you get to create your own sleepy-time outfit in the store, bring it home, and create more with what you already have.

One of the biggest reasons I love to do this is, not only because it makes the pieces seem newer, but also because it’s like designing your outfit for the day… only for nighttime. Or, if you work from home like I do, you can wander around the house feeling comfy and cute at the same time.

That’s the biggest thing: feeling comfy and cute.

If you have a house that runs cold, you can find pairs of leggings and plop them into your pajamarama time outfits. Hoodies or comfy and cute sweatshirts can also be changed out, per season or per how hot or cold your body runs. My home tends to run hot, so I’m always wearing shorts and short-sleeved tops.

Being able to do this can also help your anxiety before bed by helping you release creativity and fighting anxiety by making you feel good. Why do we wear the clothing we wear during the day, anyway? Because we like it, because it makes is feel good, and because it fulfills a part of us, the same part of us creating your own pajamarama outfits can. As long as we treat getting dressed like a treat for our minds and our bodies, creating your own nighttime outfits can be beneficial for sleep, creativity, and the act of lounging around the house in something that makes us feel good.

I hope you find this helpful, and find yourself separating pajama sets, creating your own adventure before you sleep… or, if you’re like me, before you start a day’s work from home.
