Easy Shorts

It’s that time of year again — the time of year where shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, and mini skirts are worn. Sure, you can wear these things during the winter, but if you live up North, or anywhere else it snows, you’re most likely to wear stockings or leggings or sweaters or long johns underneath everything. You’ve probably discovered sheer leggings, the way I did last year, and wear those underneath your skirts or dresses to keep nice and warm.
But, once the winter’s over, and the sun comes out, you won’t be wearing them.
Your tees and shorts will become your best friend.
That’s where, if you have long pants you never wore during the cold weather months, turning them into shorts comes in.
All you need is a pair of pants and a pair of scissors. Tug them on, button them, then notice where you’d like to shorten them. With the scissors, snip where you’d like to shorten them to on one side. Only one snip. Don’t try to shorten them while wearing them. What you want is a reference point for where you want the length to be.
Take them off, find the reference point, fold the shorts in half, and cut both legs at the same time. Make sure they’re on a flat surface before you change their length. Once they’re shortened, try them back on to doublecheck that’s where you want them to reach, and adjust accordingly.

Keep in mind, if you make them too short, they’ll be impossible to wear. You’ll be tugging, and yanking, at them, uncomfortably wearing something you thought would be adorable and fun to put on and go out in.
There’s a sweet spot with where each one can be cut in order to dress your body. Find that sweet spot. You might find that a length of short you never thought you’d love wearing looks the best, and feels the best.
Don’t forget: the more comfortable you are in your clothing, the better you will look. This counts with both being physically comfortable, and psychologically comfortable.
Allowing yourself to play with the length will help you figure out what you like to wear, and why you like to wear it. Shorts are a definite summer thing, and being able to make your own after pants you’ll never wear will help you expand your wardrobe.
What you don’t wear can be something you can wear, and, instead of wasting money on something you hate, you can turn them into something you love.
