Hair Clips For Shoes

Back in the 1950s, and other times around there, women were known to have what were called ‘shoe clips’. It was a way to add to a pair of shoes so that they were no longer boring. They would either slide or clamp onto a part of the shoe. Sometimes, it was the front. Sometimes, it was the sides. Back when I was creating Vintage Hollywood Lifestyle, a part of my life that feels like forever ago, I became fascinated by how fashion worked. I have since then found myself becoming a different human, and echoing my high school self, but the idea of shoe clips stayed with me.

You might not be able to find them advertised the same way today, but you can still use another type of accessory the same way: hair clips and hair pins. In fact, if you get cute binder clips or paper clips that go well with a day planner, you can use them the same way. The idea is this: you slide them onto the shoe, whichever part of the shoe works for you, and ta da! You have an updated shoe.

I found these snake hair clips a little while back. Looking at them, I knew immediately that they’d look better on shoes. So, here they are, clipped on a pair of my favorite black booties. I only have three pairs of boots. As a starving artist, that’s where creativity comes in. Being able to constantly update different looks comes with not only necessity, but also a part of the imagination that sees both problems and solutions.

Experimenting with vintage those many years ago taught me a lot about history, fashion, and how to create what you love and what you love to wear. These snake hair clips are evidence of what studying art and fashion history can teach you. If you’re anything like me, then creating art on a daily basis is one of the most vital parts of living.

Creating an outfit, especially with an artistic flair, is freedom. Creating an outfit, especially with an artistic flair, is using your imagination to build yourself with fashion and style.

Never forget: what you have around you, or what you find, can help shape your style.

And, what you have around you doesn’t have to be used in it’s original purpose. If hair clips can turn into shoe clips, what else can your accessories do?
