The Apple Embryo

I call this the ‘Apple Embryo’ because the apple wedges kind of look like they’re floating around in embryonic fluid, melting into it as the cocktail sits. The longer it sits, the stronger the almost-surprise apple disintegrates into the liquor. Alcohol eats away at its flesh, and you have a minty, maple-y, and vanilla-y mix of a strong cocktail. In this one, you need to make sure the glass gets ice cold, but it doesn’t need to sweat. The apple gets added after everything is stirred, so it’s almost like this is two completely different cocktails in one glass. That is, if you don’t sip too fast. The metal straw is for show, and because, who wants apple in their face?

Ingredients:
2 parts Skrewball whiskey
1 part Smoke Lab rice vodka
1 part Mr. Boston crème de menthe
1/2 part Vermont grade A maple syrup
1/4 part vanilla extract
1/4 apple, sliced into wedges
Directions:
Add all alcohol to tumbler with large, square ice cube. Stir with back of bar spoon until glass is ice cold. Slice quarter of an apple into three wedges, slide around ice cube. Add metal straw. Consume immediately.
