The Dog Says Cocktail

My dad’s dog sometimes gives me these looks, like, ‘You’re at Dad’s house… why aren’t you making a cocktail?’ It’s like he knows what I’m thinking, what I need to do, what I want to do, and what I want to eat or drink at every moment of every day. He’s the type who knows when I’m hungry, and will come sit on me with these giant, puppy eyes until I say, ‘Okay, you’re right… I’m starving.’ This time, I was thirsty, and he knew it. As this big guy always knows what I need and what I want, I crafted myself a cocktail with him in mind. It’s pink because of how clear most of the ingredients are, along with how dark the bitters are. I hope you love this recipe as much as I love my dog!

Ingredients:
1 part Uncle Val’s botanical gin
1 part Creme de Menthe
1/2 part Rodnik’s Absinthe
1/2 lime, for juice and garnish
7 dashes Peychaud’s aromatic bitters
Directions:
For garnish, carve a ribbon off the edge of the lime before squeezing for juice. Layer the ribbon on a short, wooden skewer for plopping into the drink once the drink’s done.
Add pebble ice three-quarters of a way up a shaker. Add alcohol, bitters, and the juice from half the lime. Shake until the outside of the shaker is almost sweating. Strain into a short tumbler. It should come up half of the way up the glass. This helps the drink to breathe, oxidize, and, it looks pretty.
Garnish with the lime ribbon on a skewer.
Serving Suggestions:
Creamy pesto gnocchi, spaghetti bolognese, brown sugar and pepper salmon.
