The Forgot The Dog

I love experimenting with new ingredients, especially once the seasons change. I also love mixing base spirits. There will be bourbon and wine in one, or I’ll mix bourbons together, or I’ll use gin and tequila in the same drink. This one incorporates both tequila and bourbon. Almost anything can complement each other well, as long as you have other accompaniments that bring out the flavors of the two things that don’t seem as though they’d go together. Around the same time that this cocktail was invented, I was supposed to be taking care of the doggy, Oakley. Let’s just say, I got a little too into cocktail making and when outside to bring him back in. Then, I realized these flowers would accompany the cocktail picture well… and then I brought the dog back inside after a few rounds of fetch.

Ingredients:
2 parts Bardstown Bourbon
1 1/2 parts Reed’s Ginger Beer
1 part Corazon Tequila
Orange Zest, for drink & garnish
1 tablespoon wildflower honey
Directions:
Shave some orange zest into the bottom of your serving glass.
Add ice to a mixing glass. Add bourbon, tequila, and half the ginger beer into your mixing glass. Stir with back of bar spoon until glass is ice cold. Strain into serving glass.
Drizzle about a tablespoon of honey into the drink. Stir a few times, but not a lot, with the back of your bar spoon to disperse it but still have it floating. Shave a little more orange zest onto the cocktail.
Serving Suggestion:
Paella, filet mignon, salmon.
